History

In the early 1980’s, the Williamson family was facing a personal struggle – a family member needed the services of a skilled nursing facility. Since Okeechobee county had no such facility, and after some time of traveling out of the county for this need, the family decided to explore the possibility of building a skilled nursing facility in Okeechobee.

“When a personal need grows into a vision for life, the community always benefits”

After applying to the State of Florida for a Certificate of Need, which is based on the population of the community as well as the need for health care services, the Williamson family obtained their first certificate in 1984. Construction began soon after, and Okeechobee Health Care Facility became a much needed community resource. Local families now have the option of keeping their loved ones in a facility within easy driving distance, avoiding the strain and expense of facilities on the coast.

Since that first certificate for 60 beds, multiple certificates have been obtained and we are now a 180 bed facility, with 172 semi-private rooms and 8 private rooms. We maintain a 97% occupancy rate, and accept Private Pay residents, as well as Insurance, HMO, Medicare, and Medicaid as primary pay sources. We are proud that we are still a privately, locally owned business serving Okeechobee County and South Florida residents and families.

What began as a personal need became a vision for the community at large, and as a result, has served to benefit thousands of people as residents, families and employees seeking to enhance their quality of life. To see our ratings by the Florida Health Care Association, click HERE.
